Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how KumawatPulse Technologies Pvt Ltd ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar storage technologies on the UPSC Maps platform. By using this service you consent to the practices described below.
Effective Date: 8 July 2025
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. They let the site remember information about your visit — such as your preferred language or settings — to make your next visit easier and the service more useful. UPSC Maps primarily uses browser-based localStorage and sessionStorage rather than traditional HTTP cookies, which means no data is sent to our servers automatically with every request.
2. Technologies We Use
We use the following client-side storage mechanisms:
| Technology | Purpose | Duration | Data Sent to Server? |
|---|---|---|---|
| localStorage | Persists your quiz progress, XP, streak data, and user preferences (e.g. high-yield filter, active map layers) | Until you clear browser data or use the in-app reset | No — stays entirely on your device |
| sessionStorage | Temporary UI state for the current browser tab (e.g. onboarding step, active drill session) | Until the browser tab is closed | No — stays entirely on your device |
| HTTP Cookies (strictly necessary) | Security-related headers set by Next.js (CSRF protection). No personal data. | Session only | Yes — required for the app to function |
3. Strictly Necessary Storage (Cannot Be Disabled)
Some storage is essential for the platform to work. Without it, core features such as progress saving, streak tracking, and quiz resumption will not function. This includes:
upscProgress— your per-point quiz history and SRS review scheduleupscStreak— daily study streak counterupscJourneyProgress— chapter completion stateupscMapsActiveView— last active page for seamless navigationupscOnboardingComplete— whether the welcome wizard has been shown
4. Analytics & Third-Party Cookies
We currently do not use any third-party analytics trackers, advertising cookies, or social media pixels. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated and you will be notified via an in-app banner with an opportunity to consent before any new tracking technologies are activated.
5. Your Controls
You have several ways to manage storage on this platform:
- In-app reset: Use the "Reset All Progress" button in the Dashboard to wipe all upsc* keys from localStorage instantly.
- Browser settings: Use your browser's built-in developer tools (Application → Storage) to inspect or delete individual keys at any time.
- Incognito / Private mode: Running the app in a private window prevents any localStorage from persisting beyond the session.
6. Legal Basis & Data Principal Rights (DPDPA)
All storage described in this policy is either strictly necessary for the service you have requested, or based on your consent. Under the Information Technology Act 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDPA), we are committed to transparency and processing only the minimum data required. Because all learning data stays locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers, your Data Principal rights (such as access, correction, and erasure) can be exercised directly by you via your local browser controls and the in-app "Reset Progress" feature.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page will always reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes we will display an in-app notice.
8. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Cookie Policy or wish to exercise your data rights, please reach out to our Privacy Officer at privacy@kumawat.co.in. We aim to respond within 30 days as required under DPDPA 2023.
